Magento Development & Consulting

Senior Magento consultant helping businesses stabilise, optimise, and plan the future of their eCommerce platforms.

I've been building and maintaining Magento sites since the platform's early days. Certified developer. Former Head of Development and Technical Director. Over fifteen years of hands-on experience with eCommerce platforms, now applied directly to helping businesses get the most from their Magento investment.

This isn't agency work. When you engage me, you work with me directly — no account managers, no junior developers, no hand-offs. Senior expertise applied to your specific situation.

How I Help Magento Site Owners

Focused services for businesses running Magento platforms.

Stabilisation

Sites that have grown unreliable over time. Performance issues, random errors, extensions that conflict. Getting back to a stable baseline.

Performance

Slow storefronts, sluggish admin panels, checkout processes that lose customers. Diagnosis and optimisation across the full stack.

Security

Patch backlogs, PCI compliance, vulnerability assessments. Making sure your platform isn't a liability.

Upgrades

Planning and executing Magento upgrades safely. Particularly for sites where previous attempts have failed or caused problems.

Technical Audits

Comprehensive assessment of your Magento installation. Understanding what you have before deciding what to do with it.

Migration Planning

When it's time to move beyond Magento — whether to headless, a different platform, or a phased transition strategy.

The Kind of Magento Work I Take On

Most of my Magento work falls into two categories: crisis intervention and ongoing technical oversight.

Crisis intervention is when something has already gone wrong. Performance has degraded to the point where it's affecting revenue. A security issue has been discovered. An upgrade has failed and left the site in a broken state. These situations need someone who can diagnose quickly, act decisively, and fix problems without creating new ones.

Ongoing oversight is for businesses that want to prevent crises rather than react to them. This means having a senior technical consultant who understands your platform, monitors its health, plans upgrades and patches carefully, and provides guidance on technical decisions. It's the difference between fighting fires and having proper fire prevention.

What I don't do is commodity support — answering tickets, making small content changes, handling routine admin tasks. If that's what you need, there are more cost-effective options. My value is in the depth of expertise and the accountability that comes with working directly with a senior consultant.

Experience That Goes Deep

Magento is a complex platform. It rewards deep expertise and punishes superficial knowledge. The same symptom — slow page loads, for example — can have dozens of different root causes, each requiring a different solution. Knowing which avenue to investigate, and in what order, comes from having seen hundreds of Magento installations over many years.

I started working with Magento when the platform was still establishing itself. I've been through every major version transition, every security incident, every shift in Adobe's approach to the product. I've run development teams, built large-scale installations, and helped businesses navigate the entire lifecycle from initial build through to eventual migration.

Before AI tools changed how developers work, I was creating Magento educational content on YouTube — teaching other developers how to understand the platform. That background shapes how I approach client work: clear communication, knowledge transfer, and a focus on building understanding rather than dependency.

Thinking Beyond Magento

Magento doesn't have to be forever. For many businesses, it's still the right platform — capable, flexible, and familiar. With proper maintenance, a well-built Magento site can continue serving effectively for years.

But the eCommerce landscape has evolved. Headless architectures offer new possibilities. Platforms purpose-built for modern requirements have emerged. At some point, many businesses face the question of whether to continue investing in Magento or to begin planning a transition.

I help businesses think through this honestly. Sometimes the right answer is to double down on Magento — stabilise it, optimise it, extend its useful life. Sometimes a headless approach makes sense — keeping Magento as a backend while building a modern frontend. Sometimes a complete migration is the most cost-effective path. The answer depends on your specific situation, not on generic industry trends.

What I won't do is push migration services you don't need or keep you on Magento when it's no longer serving your interests. The goal is to give you clear information so you can make good decisions.
